Eight members of the Dakota City Fire Department will travel to Emmitsburg, Md., this weekend to attend the 36th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in honor of local fallen firefighters Eric Speck and Lowell Satterwhite.
Firefighter Lowell E. Satterwhite Sr., age 67, of the Dakota City Fire Department, died on Sept. 11, 2016, after responding to an emergency medical call.
Captain Eric Speck, age 38, of the Dakota City Fire Department, was hospitalized on June 23, 2016, after responding to an EMS call and passed away on June 27, 2016.
Their names will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Academy grounds. The national tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration.
“The Dakota City Fire Department will always remember and honor Eric and Lowell for the their sacrifice for their community,” said Clint Rasmussen, Dakota City fire chief.
Attending the ceremony from Dakota City will be: Clint Rasmussen, Pat Moore, Jim Gustin, Chuck Magdanz, Jerry Yacevich, Randy Greotken, Doug Janssen, and Joanie Speck.
There will be a candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and a memorial service at 9 a.m. Sunday, all central time. The services will be streaming live on firehero.org.
