The Dakota County Commissioners voted to amend the 2017-18 budget at their Monday, Sept. 25 meeting due to a clerical error.
The amendment will lower the county's tax levy from the original $0.398783 per $100 property valuation to $0.361480. This lowers the amount owed in county taxes for a $100,000 home for 2017-18 from $398.78 to $361.48.
The county's tax levy for 2016-2017 was $0.324960, which means the county's tax levy for 2017-18 is up 11 percent from last year.
The county had to implement a hiring and wage freeze, cut jobs, and cut 10 percent from various departments to account for this year's tight budget.
