Pender earns National Blue Ribbon School honor

Students at Pender Public Schools met last Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Heese Event Center for an afternoon assembly they won’t soon forget.

Superintendent Jason Dolliver told the group of staff and children in grades K-12 about something called a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School.

Since 1982, only 18 schools in Nebraska had earned the award. Only about 350 of 140,000 schools in the nation would be receiving that level of recognition this year.

And then he told them that the district had applied for it.

“Why not?” Dolliver asked them.


Family, friends rally to help 1-year-old with leukemia

Friends and family of Rosie Kubik have rallied to a really big cause wrapped in a tiny and precious package.


Walthill woman dies in car accident on Highway 94

A 38-year-old Walthill woman was killed in a single vehicle rollover accident at 10:30 Monday morning in Thurston County.

 

Gutzmann will be PCC's first manager

The Pender Community Center has hired its first manager. Katie Gutzmann started work in a part-time position.

 

Postmaster Eilerts retires after 37 years
Pender Postmaster Mike Eilerts retired from the Postal service after 37 years of postal work. Those years included 14 different post offices, with his last 5 1/2 years spent here in Pender.
