Charlotte M. (Sides) Orr, 96, lifelong resident of rural Dakota City, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, 1523 Locust Street, Dakota City, Neb. with Pastor Joan Frenzel officiating. Burial was in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present began at 5:30 P.M. on Friday, June 25, 2010, with a prayer service and time of sharing at 7:00 P.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home, 1431 W. 29th Street, South Sioux City, Neb. Charlotte was born in rural Dakota City, Nebraska on March 5, 1914 to Guy Garfield and Etta Mabel (Altemus) Sides. She grew up in Dakota City and was confirmed in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dakota City. She graduated from Dakota City High School in 1931. Later that same year she married John (Jack) Gustave Orr in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple farmed in rural Dakota City in the South Salem Community area. Jack passed away January 30, 1955.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dakota City, as well as numerous community and civic organizations. Charlotte donated countless hours of volunteer service, and was widely known for her musicianship, playing the organ for over 80 years. She was also a very wise business woman and historian. Charlotte enjoyed music and gardening.
Her family members include daughters, Jacqueline C., and her deceased husband, Jack L. Johanson of Omaha, Nebraska, Carolyn K. Orr of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Sharon and her deceased husband, Russell G. Huffman of South Sioux City, Nebraska; sister and brother-in-law, Ardyce and Donovan "Bing" Quimby of South Sioux City; sister-in-law, Emily Sides McDaniels of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Lynda (Marshall) Nelson, Jeri (Jerry) Robinson, Kimberly Johanson, Michelle (Bruce) Dreessen, Nicole (Sandy) Morgan, Sheryl Goff, Brent (Cheryl) Huffman; 11 living great-grandchildren; 1 deceased great-grandchild; and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and E. Mabel Sides; her husband John (Jack) Orr; brother, Guy Gayland Sides; sister-in-law, Helen Bland; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Maxine and Marvin Chaillie.
She leaves many caring friends and acquaintances from her 96 years of life.
The family would like to thank the staff at Regency Square Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland for the loving care and concern they provided Mother.
A memorial will be established in honor of Charlotte.
